RESIDENCIA BERLIN ART INSTITUTE

I was selected to take part in this art residency in Berlin, Germany, during March, April, and May 2018.

My experience at BAI was outstanding. I felt fully supported and respected, while also enjoying the freedom to continue developing my artistic process. The program encouraged exploration of new materials and approaches, fostering trust in my own artistic criteria and the unique potential I bring — all without pressure, and in alignment with my personal needs.

I believe the BAI Studio Art Program offers a tangible opportunity for growth that, depending on how each participant engages with it, can exceed expectations — not only as an artist, but also on a personal level. It is a stimulating, innovative, and constructive platform that promotes the development of artistic language, self-confidence, and individual talent and vision.

The thoughtful coaching provided by the program’s generous and well-prepared directors, along with the engaging critical discussions — both individual and group — among participating artists, creates a dynamic space for exchange and enrichment. The diversity of ages and cultures shared by participants from around the world greatly enhances the experience, fostering new perspectives and deeper awareness of how art can be seen and understood.

Additionally, the planned gallery visits and seminars led by talented thinkers, artists, and curators provide valuable insights into contemporary art — inviting participants to deepen their knowledge, raise questions, and reflect on how to engage professionally with the art world. This also gave me the opportunity to explore the cultural richness, idiosyncrasies, and vibrant artistic landscape of the incredible — and now beloved — city of Berlin.

I would also like to highlight the warmth and dedication of the program directors, artists Stephanie Jünemann and Ralf Schmitt — generous human beings who truly commit themselves to the participants with care and sincerity. They guide each artist through their process from a horizontal perspective, offering the right encouragement to help us pursue our aspirations.

I hope to return someday, as this institution allowed me — at a particular moment in my life — to rediscover part of my paternal roots in this cherished European land, and to undergo a meaningful and unforgettable inner journey that went beyond my art itself.

I participated in the Open Studio at the close of the residency, held as part of Art Spring Berlin 2018.
This annual event aims to promote the city’s studios and galleries.

I also took part as a Bai Fellow in the 2019 edition of the program.
