ASHES OF LIGHT
Installation
3 photographs / performance animation / acrylic box with ashes / handwritten fabric with text
180 x 200 x 100 cm
This artwork explores the transmutation of matter through light in a sculptural object I created as a circular symbol. I worked around the concepts of life and death, germination and aridity, and the pulse of transcendence through love and memory.
I began the project during an artist residency in Germany (in 2018), the homeland of my paternal great-great-grandmother, where I created a large-scale object using fabric, polyurethane foam, and paint. This sculpture represented a symbolic offering of union between two lands: the ancestral and the native (Argentina). I later continued developing the concept of this object during a residency in Epecuén (in 2022, Buenos Aires Province), where I deepened the poetics of the narrative within the context of a fragmented, arid, and adverse landscape. I explored light as a transversal element in the piece, acting as a transformer of matter.
I continued the action by burning the sculpture in a ruined house called Puesto del Salado, turning it into ashes.
The installation is accompanied by a poetic text written in graphite on fabric, reflecting on this circular object conceived as a cell, a seed, a portal.
