SOLAR CELL IN BERLIN

Installation painting in mixed technique on circular canvas
80cm diameter

“I walk through the light to return to my roots” is an essay about memory and honors my Swiss-German roots.
It evokes the internal potentialities that we have recorded in our DNA, and analogously how in the symbolism of the circle
(cell/seed) finally manifests the return to the origins as enhancers and possible foundations of humanity.
This project consists of an urban installation, composed of a protagonist sculptural object (cell/seed) that floats
as a germinating offering in the midst of an urban-industrial landscape; as a tribute to a part of my paternal ancestors
natives of those lands.
I made a photographic record of the piece at different times of the day, to capture what was happening inside it when it was
crossed by sunlight, and how this affected the architectural environment and the different projections of its shadow;
like invisible genetic forces that move us, traverse us and take us to unexpected but ultimately necessary places.
I am interested in highlighting what happens 'inside' the piece with the projection of the light that passes through it, as a connection
organic and 'Life' that manifests itself with the architectural and urban antagonism of the 'outside' that surrounds it.
This “offering-work” was initially intended to be completed in a performance where the piece is burned in
that open and public landscape where it was conceived. Accompanied by an Americanist shamanic ritual, transmuting in this way
way to metaphorical ashes (of light) that return to the earth, as a symbolic recognition of the memory of my
ancestors.
Due to various circumstances and unforeseen events, this offering mutated so that I could finally understand its true purpose:
I had to donate it to the institution that hosted me in this internal process during this art residency in the months of May,
June and July 2018; as a symbol of love and giving back to the land of a significant part of my ancestry.
Berlin, July 2018.
